Reveille and Hyperbole

Taleo Corporation (TLEO), provider of talent management solutions, launched a new OFCCP Compliance Services Offering. It is designed to help organizations meet the requirements outlined in the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs' (OFCCP) ruling on the definition of an Internet applicant. Scheduled to take effect February 6, 2006, the new OFCCP regulations provide four criteria for defining Internet applicants, and also outline record retention rules that contractors are required to follow.

Performax, a Baltimore-based national developer, manager and administrator of employee health benefit plans, and Interactive Health Solutions (IHS), a national leader in employee wellness programs, have formed an alliance, under which IHS will provide worksite health screenings, follow-up consultation, and education to PERFORMAX participants.

SI International, Inc., (SINT), an information technology and network solutions (IT) company, announced that it has been awarded a contract by the Air Force Space Command to provide systems engineering and technical analysis supporting the development of operating concepts for future Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) systems. The contract was awarded under the Contract Advisory and Assistance Services and Engineering and Technical Assistance (CAASETA) contract vehicle, and has a one-year base period with a one-year option. The contract's value is $4 million over two years, if all options are exercised.

Couldn't Pass It Up

The Coming Tug of War Over the Internet

Do you prefer to search for information online with Google or Yahoo? What about bargain shopping -- do you go to Amazon or eBay? Many of us make these kinds of decisions several times a day, based on who knows what -- maybe you don't like bidding, or maybe Google's clean white search page suits you better than Yahoo's colorful clutter.

But the nation's largest telephone companies have a new business plan, and if it comes to pass you may one day discover that Yahoo suddenly responds much faster to your inquiries, overriding your affinity for Google. Or that Amazon's Web site seems sluggish compared with eBay's.

The changes may sound subtle, but make no mistake: The telecommunications companies' proposals have the potential, within just a few years, to alter the flow of commerce and information -- and your personal experience -- on the Internet. For the first time, the companies that own the equipment that delivers the Internet to your office, cubicle, den and dorm room could, for a price, give one company priority on their networks over another.
