LiveDeal.com,
one of the leading free local online classifieds sites in the U.S., today
launched its Canadian counterpart, LiveDeal.ca
(LiveDeal Canada), through a joint venture with Torstar Corporation, and its
online unit, Torstar Digital. This venture will provide
Canadians with a revolutionary new online marketplace to buy and sell goods on a
local and national level. LiveDeal.ca breaks down online shopping barriers by
enabling buyers and sellers to meet in person and "try before they
buy," which eliminates prohibitive shipping costs and reduces fraud.
LiveDeal.ca is especially ideal for buying and selling bulky or big-ticket items
such as furniture, cars, pets and major appliances.
FinancialMedic's retirement
planning site, Retireport.com (RP), allows clients to produce and control
their retirement analysis. RP enables pre-retirees to find their unique balance
of savings, income and investments to meet their retirement goals. An estimated
10,000 Americans will turn 59½ every day in 2006. A recent GE Finance Survey
found that 40%-60% pre-retirees have no retirement plan. RP helps address this
need by providing an easy to use, secure, private, and comprehensive analytical
tool.

Canada:
- Doctor Appreciation Day is Jan. 26 The
annual day set aside to give thanks to doctors is fast approaching.
Doctor Appreciation Day is Jan. 26, marking
the fifth year that such a day of recognition has been declared. According
to local physician recruiter John MacDonald, the Peterborough region was one
of the first in Ontario such a day as part of its doctor retention and
recruitment efforts.
"With the awareness that there continues
to be a provincial and national shortage of physicians, citizens have become
even more appreciative of the men and women in our community who continue to
provide excellent medical care," says Mr. MacDonald.

- RPO Challenges In China You are hearing
a lot about Recruitment Processing Outsourcing (RPO), especially from us,
but obviously there are many people who remain unconvinced.
Otherwise everyone in China would be doing
it. Right?. So why exactly is it that you consider RPO as a solution?
Here are a few thoughts that we pulled from a
very heated round table event with HR Managers in China

Return on Affiliate - Social Networking for Affiliate Marketers
I stopped by the booth for Return on Affiliate towards the end of Affiliate
Summit 2006 in Vegas, and I don't know how this neat idea has been under my
radar for so long.
Return on Affiliate is sort of like LinkedIn or one of the other broad social
networking communities, but it's specific to affiliate marketers.

Everyone loves Craigslist. Except the newspapers
Businesses that have long relied upon classified advertising in newspapers
are starting to experiment with Craigslist, a free online bulletin board
that is expanding its reach in Hawaii.
Craigslist.org offers free classified advertising in all 50 states and 35
countries. More than 10 million people use the site each month to find
practically anything -- cars, apartments, jobs, even sex.

US:
- Diversity does not apply to companies' executives
Diversity. That's a term used to describe the equal hiring and promoting of
women, minorities, disabled and gay employees in the workplace. But is it a
buzzword or a real factor in corporate hiring practices today?
According to Susan Holland, president of HollandRusk &
Associates, an executive search firm based in Chicago, diversity is an
"evolving" term. And Holland, who has been in the search
profession since 1976, has observed the evolution firsthand.
"Today, diversity means looking at ways of answering
business needs," said the recruiter, who is a generalist and handles
searches for positions of director and above with salaries starting at
$125,000 annually. "In a perfect world, diversity is something positive
that drives companies to hire someone other than only the white male
majority."

- Labor Department issues first-ever regulations
protecting the reemployment rights of service men and women, effective
January 18, 2006
The U.S. Department of Labor has announced regulations,
published December 19, 2005, in the Federal Register, interpreting the law
that protects employment and reemployment rights and benefits of service
members upon their return to civilian life. This is the first time since its
passage in 1994 that the Department of Labor has developed regulations to
explain and clarify the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act (USERRA).
The department's action is the latest in a series of proactive steps taken
to ensure job security for the largest group of mobilized National Guard and
Reserve service members since World War II. USERRA prohibits discrimination
against past and present members of the uniformed services and establishes
reemployment rights for service members who want to return to the jobs they
held prior to service.

- The buzz at the office COCKTAIL, anyone? A new study
on alcohol in the workplace has found that there may be more than coffee in
your colleague's "I Hate Mondays" mug.
Based on a nationwide telephone survey of 2,805 employed
adults, a researcher at the University of Buffalo in New York reports that
an estimated 15% of the workforce has had at least one incident in the last
year of drinking before or during work, being under the influence of alcohol
while at work or being hung over while at work.
