- A Monster deal for Google? As Google bulks up in the online

other things will allow users to post job listings for free. (CNN)
- Monster Worldwide "outperform," target price raised
Analysts at Robert W Baird maintain their "outperform" rating on
Monster Worldwide Inc (MNST.NAS). The target price has been raised from $41
to $43. In a research note published this morning, the analysts mention that
the upward revision in the target price reflects improved growth prospects.
CareerBuilder's CEO, Matt Ferguson, indicated that the pricing environment
and online recruiting demand continue to be robust. Concerns surrounding the
challenges posed by aggregators to Monster Worldwide and CareerBuilder have
reduced, Robert W Baird adds. (newratings.com)

Its analysis of the latest Labour Force Survey, covering the summer of 2005,

US:
- Looming crisis in workforce Instead of figuring ways to extract
more campaign contributions and free golf trips from lobbyists, members of
Congress ought to focus on a growing labor problem in the United States - a
shortage of workers. U.S. Chamber of Commerce officials said earlier this
week U.S. businesses will be facing a critical and growing shortage of
workers in the next few years, as an estimated 70 million-plus baby boomers
enter retirement. Chamber officials identified two key issues - the need for
allowing more foreign workers into the country, and the shortfall of college
graduates with degrees and training in math and engineering. On the first
matter, the chamber supports a guest-worker program, such as discussed by
President Bush but left out of a House-approved bill. On the other issue,
chamber officials believe the only way to get more skilled, educated workers
is to convince U.S. schools to focus more on math, science and engineering.
China currently graduates eight times more engineers than U.S. colleges and
universities. Chamber and business community officials say the U.S. needs to
double the number of math, science and engineering graduates in the next
decade. (LompocRecord)
- Monster sees slowing of job openings The first Monster.com online
job posting index of 2006 finds more openings in hospitality businesses but
fewer openings in Hawaii. New York-based Monster Worldwide Inc. (Nasdaq:
MNST) says winter usually brings more tourism-related jobs and fewer online
job postings in construction. The company's employment index fell from 149
in November to 145 in December after four months of growth. Online demand
for workers fell in 20 of 23 occupational categories. But the overall figure
is still 32 points above year-before level. "Almost all industries,
occupations, regions and states show much higher levels of online job
availability than a year ago," said Group President Steve Pogorzelski.
"This certainly bodes well for job seekers as we enter 2006." (BizJournals)

- U.S. Initial Jobless Claims Fall to Lowest Since 2000 The number of
Americans filing first- time claims for jobless benefits fell last week to
the lowest level since September 2000, suggesting employers are adding more
than enough positions to keep unemployment near a four-year low. Initial
jobless claims decreased by 35,000 to 291,000 last week, the Labor
Department said today in Washington. The four-week moving average, a less
volatile measure, fell to 316,750 from 326,000. Claims were held down by
seasonal adjustments that anticipated more holiday dismissals than actually
occurred, a Labor Department official said. Declining claims suggest jobs
are being created faster than new workers are entering the labor force as
companies exhaust productivity gains and expand their staffs. Employers
probably added 200,000 new positions in December, economists said ahead of
the Labor Department's monthly payrolls report tomorrow. (bloomberg)

Monster Helps New Year's Job Seekers Keep Resolutions; New survey shows
one-third of active job seekers surveyed landed a job offer through Monster;
Monster to enhance 2006 ad campaign with survey findings
Monster announced survey results that demonstrate the success job seekers
have had using Monster.
An independent, nationwide survey conducted by comScore Networks reveals
that during a six-month timeframe (May-October 2005):
* Nearly one-third (32 percent) of active users who posted a searchable
resume got a job offer through Monster.
* Nine out of ten respondents who visited the top three online job sites used
Monster.
* Monster users who posted a searchable resume were twice as likely to get
interviews - and job offers -versus those who didn't post a resume.
* Nearly as many seekers got interviews and job offers through Monster than
with the other two largest online job sites combined.
"It is extremely gratifying to see Monster's services delivering such
compelling results for today's job seekers and employers," said Brad
Baker, Chief Product and Marketing Officer for Monster Worldwide. "comScore's
survey findings demonstrate that online recruitment is effective for not only
listing jobs, but landing them. This is the ultimate measure of success for
our business."
Tens of thousands of recruiters search millions of resumes in Monster's
database every month to fill open positions, some of which are not listed or
advertised on other online sources or otherwise. Tapping into job seekers who
may be open to a new position but are not actively looking for one is among
the key benefits of Monster's resume search feature for employers.
"Monster continues to redefine the way recruiting is done today,"
explains Baker. "Resume database searching represents a new mindset for
recruiting that is becoming increasingly popular and effective, and is
indicative of how Monster makes it easier, faster and more cost-effective to
find - and hire - the quality candidates employers demand," explains
Baker.
Monster to Tout Powerful Survey Results in 2006 Advertising
Monster saw a dramatic increase in resume postings after the "New
Monster, New You" advertising campaign launched last fall. The company
will enhance its campaign this year by incorporating comScore's survey results
into the creative. Revised and newly created spots highlight the "twice
as likely" statistic to convey the benefit of posting a resume on
Monster. The ads are scheduled to appear on network and cable television in
primetime and news programming, as well as on the radio and online, beginning
this month.
About the comScore Networks Survey
comScore Networks conducted a customer research study in October 2005.
Results are based on 967 respondents ages 18-50 who had visited one of the top
online job sites in the previous six-months (May-October 2005)
