You Should Know
China:
  • Website on Human Resources Launched in Beijing. A website on human resources research was launched Friday in Beijing to provide professional human resources services for the municipal government and the public. The website was sponsored by Beijing Municipal Human Resources Research Center, an institution on human resources development and management under the Organization Department of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The research center and the website are expected to pool the human resources in Beijing and provide professional strategic suggestion to the municipal government and the public, said Du Deyin, deputy secretary of Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC. Since the research center was launched a year ago, it has set up Capital Human Resources Cooperation Department, Beijing Municipal Human Resources Management Consultative Committee and a database on human resources. • Adapting Hiring to the Internet  If you are going to use the internet as part of your hiring process you had better understand the way that potential staff in China are using the net. (Talent In China)

  • Playing Games for Cash  They sound like a very exciting new investment opportunity. Gold Farms .... ah yes!, a place where rich farmers cultivate more wealth than you can possibly imagine.  In reality, they are small, grotty internet cafes where young Chinese farmers work 12 hours a day, playing games.  Yes, you heard me right. Playing games.  The latest form of outsourcing involves gamers playing famous online or CD based games. They sell the gold pieces or game characters to people who don't have the capability or inclination to do it by themselves. The transactions are done using Ebay or just word of mouth. (Talent In China)

Global:
  • The Hidden Beauty of Career Fairs Recruiting at career fairs is cheap and fast. Fairs can deliver high-quality hires, fill pipelines and generate some unexpected benefits for building long-term recruiting strength. In this age of Internet recruiting, career fairs and job expos have a quaint feel about them. But smart companies are using fairs to pull in highly qualified candidates and cut time to fill down to days, all at a relatively low cost. They are also discovering that career fairs can build the employment brand and fill recruiting pipelines. And when the fairs are staffed by employees, they can help build morale and turn workers into year-round recruiters. (Workforce)

  • Big-Time Economic Doom Coming, Says Financial Guru  Big-time economic doom is about to start as the financial bubble economy of the United States bursts. This is according to economic forecasting guru Robert Prechter, CEO of Elliott Wave International, who has just been interviewed by Jim Puplava on the popular Internet radio program Financial Sense Newshour, out of San Diego. Prechter's forecast differs so much with the mainstream that the incredibly rosy ding dong optimism of the US government and Wall Street is laughable, practically a satire of reality and the truly awful economic situation. Japan:
  • Japan: From Long, Slow Decline to Long, Slow Recovery  After 15 years of stagnation and decline following the spectacular collapse of its 1980s bubble economy, Japan is finally showing some signs of a recovery. The Nikkei index is trading at five-year highs. Real estate prices are rebounding. Deflation appears to be under control and interest rates, effectively at zero for more than five years, may soon begin to rise. (Wharton)

  • One Road to Japan's Recovery Lies through China  In Southern China's Pearl River delta, Japanese manufacturers Kyocera Corp and Konica Minolta Holdings are building high-tech optical products. In plants stretching across China, Japan's Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., the parent company of Panasonic, has 60,000 employees in 59 separate companies making everything from batteries to microwave ovens to semiconductors. And Toyota Motor Corp., Japan's premiere industrial company, just announced it has selected China for the first overseas production of its hot-selling hybrid Prius. (Wharton)

US:
  • FTC Pushing Spammers' Buttons Who needs Eliot Spitzer when you're the FTC? The governmental branch has been on a tear in recent days thanks to its Operation Button Pusher initiative, which targets spammers who allegedly violate federal law (e.g., by sending spam with false "from" information, misleading subject lines, or by failing to provide an "opt-out" option or a physical address) (New Media Report)
