Reveille and Hyperbole
CV Advantage announced today, a partnership alliance with BlueSteps.com that includes a 25% discount code to BlueSteps' Executive Membership services in the $39.95  CV/Resume toolset. BlueSteps.com is the only executive career management service that gives senior executives continual exposure to over 4000 search professionals in the world's top search firms in more than 70 countries.

Seventy-six percent of employees are looking for new employment opportunities, according to the 2005 U.S. Job Recovery and Retention Survey released by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and CareerJournal.com. Sixty-five percent of HR professionals indicated that they were concerned about the voluntary resignations at their organizations.

TALENThire.com, an Atlanta-based recruiting technology firm, has added its 250th client since its launch in January 2004. The company streamlines recruiter vendor management while offering cost saving initiatives through a "name your price" fee model on companies' fee-approved positions. "We're addressing our corporate clients' needs through proactively attracting Talent Agents," said Mike Veronesi, managing partner for TALENThire.com.

Finding the ideal job in South Yorkshire will soon be a whole lot easier thanks to JobsDoncaster.co.uk, an innovative web based jobs portal created for Doncaster Council by on-line recruitment experts, Jobsgopublic (JGP).

With 19 million blogs in the world, a million posts daily and 80,000 new blogs created every 24 hours, we are in the middle of a publishing revolution - further evidenced by Google specifically setting up a blog search facility to help the world access this new phenomenon. Which is why Giraffe is delighted to announce the launch of "The Whole of the Blog" - the very first online diary devoted to UK recruitment advertising .

Adecco's Jacobs to Step Down in 2007 After Seeking Successor  Swiss-based billionaire Klaus Jacobs plans to find a new chairman and chief executive officer for Adecco SA, the world's largest provider of temporary workers, after taking over the running of the company last week. A new CEO will be found when the ``right person'' is identified, he said. (Bloomberg)

You Should Know
Global:

  • To have and to hold those valued employees  When it comes to finding and retaining talented workers, employers might want to start thinking less like recruiters and more like anthropologists. That's what Marc Cendella, president of TheLadders.com, a job site for high-earners, told a group of about 400 people attending a recent recruiting conference in Manhattan.  That means not only identifying top talent but also learning what motivates them so you can take steps to keep them engaged. That, as well as learning more about their behaviors - what events they attend, what bloggers they read - so you can find and recruit others cut from the same cloth. (Newsday.com)

  • Five Tips for Increasing Your Hireability EQ Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the ability to deal effectively with other people and their feelings as well as your own. In job hunting, a high EQ can produce a successful interview and ultimately a job offer. Unlike your intelligence quotient (IQ), which is genetically predetermined, you can increase your EQ through awareness. And EQ may be as much a predictor of success (if not a better one) than your IQ, especially in job hunting, where personal interaction plays an important role. (Monster)

  • Joyce Lain Kennedy: Future of jobs a guessing game because the market changes so quickly Dear Joyce: How do you see the nature of careers changing in the coming decades? Best career fields? Worst? -- K.A.S.  A. Think wild cards. Previous paradigm shifts in the job market were somewhat predictable, but from here on out, the patterns of change look startlingly different. (Sun-Sentinel)

  • Towards hot swappable web services Common data formats are becoming a must, says Jon Udell Walt Johnson is an IT planner at the California Independent System Operator (CalISO), the non-profit operator of the state's wholesale power grid. I met him at InfoWorld's SOA Executive Forum earlier this month, where he described CalISO's transition to service-oriented architecture (SOA).  Now entering its fourth generation, CalISO's electronic marketplace uses web services on an enterprise service bus to receive bids and send notifications. None of this is visible to the customers drawing power from the grid. They just assume that there's a competitive market and — if they think about it at all — that suppliers are interchangeable. India:
  • Evolve recruitment model, biotech companies told  Academics have suggested a Biotech Industrial Training Programme (BITP) scheme for recruitment to the biotech industry on the model of Bhabha Atomic Research Centres' (BARC) training school or the Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL).  Addressing the human resource guidelines and requirements of the biotech industry organised by Association of Biotechnology-Led Enterprises (ABLE), P S Rao, director, PES Institute of Technology said that the BARC model is transparent. (Business Standard)

  • India becomes a hub for architecture design outsourcing If one thought that the sophisticated malls, flyovers and skyscrapers abroad had an indigenous genesis, then one needs to think again.  India's booming business process outsourcing industry is cashing on rising costs and dwindling architecture professionals in the US and Europe, offering construction firms complete design and infrastructure support ranging from designs to 3-D simulation of skyscrapers.  Experts say that spiraling costs, squeeze on margins and talent shortage has compelled establishments abroad to eye Indian architectural design firms. (WebIndia123)

Italy:
  • Manpower export to Italy becomes uncertain  Manpower export to Italy seems uncertain as the government recently halted the move of a private company but has not yet taken further measures for exploiting the job prospects in the European country, reports UNBSources said Datco, a private firm, took an initiative to send about 250 female nurses to Italy in association with an Italian company, Adecco Italia. Initially, the Datco recruited 50 professional female nurses, who have diploma degree on the discipline, to send them to Italy. (Financial Express)

Malaysia:
  • Malaysia keeps 3rd best spot for outsourcing MALAYSIA has maintained its rank as the third best country in the world for outsourcing businesses, according to the latest annual ranking by consultant A.T. Kearney.  South-East Asian countries were the biggest winners in this year's Global Services Location Index, which measures a country's attraction for firms carrying out offshoring business. (BusinessTimes)

Russia
:
  • Russia`s need for immigrants Russia will not be able to develop the vast expanses of Siberia and the Far East without an immigrant workforce.  Even the optimistic UN forecast predicts the Russian population will drop to 138 million by the year 2025. Without immigration the able-bodied population may decrease by almost 20 million people. This will cause serious problems. The domestic workforce will not be able to cope with Russia`s economic development. Even today, we need several million more workers to implement President Vladimir Putin`s task of doubling the GDP. Under the circumstances we should welcome the migrants rather than aggravate hostility against them. (M&CNews)

Saudi Arabia:
  • GulfPersonnel launches new job portal  GulfPersonnel, a leading recruitment and search company based in Knowledge Village, has announced the launch of its job portal GulfPersonnel.com.  The portal caters to both job seekers and recruiters in the Middle East. It already boasts of more than 105,000 job seekers and an impressive list of recruiters. The portal is also the first in the Middle East to offer job seekers simplified email registration procedures and real time job alerts and the first to offer recruiters an assured response program whereby job postings for clients will be backed up with offline recruitment processes which will guarantee response. • JD Wetherspoons devises online recruitment system for pub managers Pub chain JD Wetherspoons has introduced an online recruitment system which alerts the HR department as soon as there is a managerial vacancy in any of its pubs.  New licensing laws mean that from Thursday this week, if a pub does not have a license-holder linked to it, the pub could close.  JD Wetherspoons, which has one of the largest estates in the country with 655 pubs, said previously head office wasn't always clear about when there were vacancies.  The firm is now using its bespoke online recruitment system developed in conjunction with online recruitment firm Changeworknow, as an early warning system. • Gumtree branches nationwide trading website Gumtree.com has expanded into 20 new cities around the UK.  Originally designed to connect people who were either planning to move, or had just arrived in London looking for a place to stay, a job and like-minded people, Gumtree.com has evolved into the largest UK classifieds website. • Exterminate, Exterminate Ageism When the well-known writer and producer of the successfully relaunched Doctor Who, Russell T Davies goes on record in an interview with the BBC (due to be broadcast on Radio 2 in a documentary on the 20 December) stating that he would never cast a Doctor over the age of 45, something is obviously wrong. Not only will he be in direct contravention of the new age discrimination laws due to come into effect in October 2006, but he's also lost much of the radicalism presented by the original series, says Penna plc, a human capital management consultancy. (OnRec)

US:
  • One in six online Americans sell on web  One in six US internet users have sold goods and services online and 2 per cent do so on a given day, a new study claims.  Sales are typically done through such online classifed ads sites as Craigslist or through an auction like eBay, the Pew Internet and American Life Project said on Sunday. (The Age)

  • Will Retirement Be Golden for Boomers? Corporate Pensions Are Rapidly Shrinking in Number; Some Are Shrinking in Value as Well Will retirees of tomorrow enjoy the same sort of "golden age" as today's seniors? Today's seniors enjoy a "golden age of retirement security." Yet the median income of individuals age 65 and over last year was just $15,199 in the United States.  For many, those two sentences may sound contradictory. Living on 15 grand a year does not sound like a flush American living standard. Of course, many retirees own their homes outright and aren't paying a mortgage anymore. But they are still paying property taxes, maintenance, and utilities. (ABCNews)

  • An aging work force  A number of trends are coming together as baby boomers reach retirement age. The result? In five or 10 years, it may be routine to see people working into their 70s. Joseph Louro might be the picture of what retirement will look like in New Jersey. A builder for almost 40 years, the 70-year-old Louro continues to work three days a week for Cohen Schatz Associates in Shrewsbury, selling land to developers. Could he call it quits altogether instead? "The answer is, yes. But not if I wanted to maintain the lifestyle to which I was accustomed," Louro, of Freehold Township, said. "It's expensive in New Jersey. And I would not have been able to clip coupons and live happily ever after."  (AsburyParkPress)

Survey Sez:
Record Highs for Staffing Employment and Sales Results of Third Quarter National Survey

New record highs were set for staffing industry employment and sales in the third quarter of this year, according to data released today by the American Staffing Association. This quarter's numbers surpassed the industry's previous peak, set in the second quarter of 2005.

U.S. staffing firms employed an average of 2.8 million temporary and contract workers per day from July through September—up 7.1% or more than 186,000 workers compared with the same period last year.

"Demand for staffing services remains healthy, and increases in staffing industry employment continue to outpace job gains overall," says ASA president and CEO Richard Wahlquist. "The growth we saw in the third quarter and increases in permanent placement reflect the confidence of the business community that prospects look good for continued economic expansion in the U.S."

The ASA survey results also show that U.S. sales of temporary and contract staffing services totaled $17.6 billion in the third quarter, a gain of 6.8% over the same period last year.

While the pace of industry employment and sales increases has slowed over the past two quarters when compared with the same period in 2004, the industry continues to expand and has now posted 12 consecutive quarters of positive year-over-year growth.

ASA represents the U.S. staffing industry. Member companies provide a wide range of services, including temporary and contract staffing, recruiting and placement, outsourcing, training, and human resources consulting, through 15,000 offices across the nation and account for 85% of U.S. staffing industry revenues.
