18% of Us Talk To Ourselves, Annoying Others
A new survey from TrueCareers found that loud phone conversations and the use of speakerphones, as well as constant complaining about assignments, top the list of most annoying work habits.
The survey of 2,200 employees also cited cliques among co-workers, arriving late to work, talking to oneself, communicating with co-workers over cubicle walls, bad hygiene and loud eating as irritating habits.
More than half of the respondents, however, have not considered confronting a co-worker about his or her infuriating habits, possibly because many are guilty of the same behavior.
54% say that they are guilty of at least one annoying work habit.
18% say they often talk to themselves,
16% arrive late to work or meetings,
13% call over cubicle walls instead of using the telephone or e-mail,
07% constantly complain about work.
60% of employees report that the annoying work habits of a co-worker have negatively impacted relationships in the workplace and have resulted in at least a somewhat significant loss in productivity>
40% say that a co-worker's habits have become so unbearable that they are
currently looking for new employment.
17% have sought a transfer as a result of their frustration with co-workers.
The survey, conducted during July 2005, is part of a monthly survey series
for job candidates and employers on a variety of timely career-related topics.

Online advertising is the fastest growing source of revenue for newspapers. But is the typical local daily or weekly newspaper making the most of this opportunity? How can these papers grow their Web site ad revenues efficiently and
effectively without taking away from the print side? For a variety of reasons, many papers are growing their online revenue by default. That is, the market is pulling the publisher; online growth occurs despite the publisher's actions or inactions. But this kind of growth cannot continue forever.
Publishers need to actively develop and pursue online strategies by understanding the complete spectrum of available technology and better identifying existing and potential customers who belong online. (Adbumb)

The advertising industry has caught an infectious bug. It's considered highly contagious and shouldn't be ignored. They're calling it viral marketing and ever since Crispin Porter + Bogusky created the now-famous Subservient Chicken,
every marketer worth their salt has promised to include a viral component as part of a client's next campaign. The thing is, while the dream of viral marketing is a nice one, the reality of producing a viral element, one that effectively spreads through one-to-one exchanges, is often an unpleasant

Multi-state databases, although a valuable tool, represent a research or secondary tool only. They can act as good lead generators to tell a researcher where else to look. A database should supplement and not replace other safe hiring tools, such as
on-site court searches of relevant counties, and the application, interview and past employment checking process. (ESR)

Early indications suggest that the Millennial Generation, born after 1985, has a strong orientation toward entrepreneurship. They feel confident that they can achieve great results--at least earn a satisfactory living---by going into business for
themselves. This population cohort is showing itself to be self-aware, astute, creative, and comfortable taking the risks involved with businesses. This scenario is a "good news---bad news" situations. While it is inspiring to see young people with a desire to create something, to try new business
ventures while they are young, there is also a downside. These entrepreneurs, full of intellectual curiosity and energy, are often ideal employees for existing companies. However, if they are business for themselves, these unique human resources are usually not available to work for other employers.
They are simply not interested. (Herman Trend Report)
