Hudson Employment Index
Confidence among U.S. workers increased slightly in July as the Hudson Employment IndexSM edged up .7 points from 103.0 in June to 103.7. Fewer expected layoffs and particularly low concern regarding job security caused the marginal rise. Nevertheless, this month's
reading is significantly lower than one year ago, when it came in at 108.1.
The research also reveals that:
-
Anticipated lay-off activity fell to 16%, which is the lowest level since January 2005.
-
Employees of companies with 250 workers exemplified the overall trends, reporting considerably fewer layoffs and fears about job loss.
-
Workers were happier in July than the same time last year. However, they were also less optimistic regarding their financial situations.
-
Confidence fell drastically among private sector managers, as the percentage expecting hiring activity dropped five points to 40%.
