Redmatch software is now bringing the sophisticated technology of online compatibility dating services directly to the HR community.  Individual companies using the Redmatch system  have access to  The Job Network, a  network of more than 500 newspaper and related job sites.   • Newspapers are scrambling to adjust their classified advertising to grab the attention of the 18- to 34-year-olds whom advertisers crave. (Washington Times)

  • Job Scraping technology is the name for job aggregation technology that prowls the Internet to locate employment ads.  Job scraping is derived from the more universal Information Technology term, "screen scraping". (PostOnce)

  • Indeed.com co-founder Paul Forster interviewed. (Intuitive Life)

  • Microsoft Corp. increased its pace of hiring in the past year, adding nearly 4,400 employees worldwide, and said it plans to continue expanding at about the same clip in the year ahead. But more than half that employment growth occurred outside the United States. (NWTimes)

India:

  • Wage differentials are influenced by differences in individual productivity, which in turn are influenced by "investments in education or training made by individuals throughout their lives". (HinduBusinessLine)

Iowa: A gain of 5,700 non-farm jobs helped squeeze Iowa's unemployment rate down in June, and finally resurrected Iowa's non-farm job levels to pre-recession levels. The rate fell to 4.6 percent. (BlackEnterprise.com)

Japan: Japan needs to get more women, young people and the elderly into the workforce as the country's population declines, rather than rely on immigrants. (CNN)

Massachusetts: From 2002 to 2003 alone, according to Northeastern University's Center for Labor Market Studies, a net 61,000 people of working age, half holding at least a bachelor's degree, left the state. As a result, even the modest improvement in the state's economy is creating shortages in certain industries and in parts of the state as the demand for workers begins to increase. (boston.com)

New Zealand: Fairfax New Zealand has revamped its Jobstuff recruitment website, a six-figure project designed to attract job hunters who aren't hunting online. The site now features a service that stores tailored versions of a CV, an application tracker showing which jobs have been applied for, and a section just for management roles with salaries over $100,000 per year. Thailand:  Employees are becoming more reluctant to test the job market, even if a move could mean a better compensation package, for fear of current economic uncertainties. (Bangkok Post)

US:

  • Most U.S.-Based IT organizations expect to increase headcount in the next 12 months. (Gartner)

  • Self-employment plunged last month as entrepreneurs sought steadier income and benefits with established companies. The number of self-employed workers in June fell 3.1 percent, or 303,000, from the month before. It was the second consecutive month of big declines and the third-biggest monthly drop since 1995. Self-employment tends to fall as the economy grows. (AZCentral)

  • The backlog of foreign workers seeking green cards, which allow immigrants to live and work in the United States permanently, numbers more than 330,000. (DailyNews)

  • The National Association for Business Economics, which polled 103 corporate planners and financial analysts, said last week that more than a third of them reported their companies had difficulty hiring skilled workers. That marked the highest level in four years, and was consistent with Federal Reserve surveys of economic conditions across the country. (FortWayne.com)
