The Employment Situation Summary
shows the Nonfarm payroll employment increased by 262,000 in February and the unem-
ployment rate edged up to 5.4 percent. Job growth occurred in both goods-
producing and service-providing industries.
New Combinations
Deploy Solutions announced that
eQuest will provide its customers with international,
national, and industry-specific job-posting deliveries through its host of online recruitment services.
Recruitmax, a provider of technology and services
for building workforces, announced that it
has acquired InfoTechWorks, a New Hope, Pa.-based provider of compensation management software and
consulting services. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

CareerXroads released its annual
Sources of Hire
Study, covering the hiring trends of some of America's largest organizations throughout 2004.
Key finding from the study show that
the Internet and expanding referral networks continue to put pressure on traditional forms of recruiting
and the major job boards continue to dominate on the Internet.
The National Association of
State Personnel Executives reports that state governments could
lose more than 30% of their workforce by 2006. The rates for state public health departments
are as high as 43%.
U.S. Senators Chuck Hagel and Senator Dick Durbin re-introduced
The Public Health
Preparedness Workforce Development Act. This legislation aims to increase the pipeline of qualified
public health workers at the federal, state, local and tribal levels by offering scholarships to students
going into the public health field. It also encourages current employees to stay in the public health
field by providing loan repayments in exchange for a commitment of a designated number of years of
service in public health.
