Consumer Price Index: December 2004. The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) decreased 0.4 percent in December, before seasonal adjustment. The Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) also decreased 0.4 percent in December, prior to seasonal adjustment. The Chained Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (C-CPI-U) declined 0.4 percent in December on a not seasonally adjusted basis.

Real Earnings In December 2004. Real average weekly earnings rose by 0.5 percent from November to December after seasonal adjustment, according to preliminary data. This was due to a 0.1-percent increase in average hourly earnings, a 0.3-percent rise in average weekly hours, and a 0.1-percent decrease in CPI-W.

Brainhunter acquires Vision2Hire Solutions Inc., a Vancouver-based company that makes online applicant tracking and hiring software.

Dropping Notes
A consortium of global high-tech companies led by IBM commits more than $2.5 billion of investments in Upstate New York. The consortium includes Sony, Toshiba, Samsung, Infineon, AMD and Charter. New York Governor Pataki has agreed to commit $150 million in State support for the two projects, in exchange for the commitment by consortium to create 750 high technology jobs in the Hudson Valley, from East Fishkill to Albany.
