CareerJournal reports that New England is expected to see slow job growth over the next 2 years, lagging the rest of the nation, and it is not expected to return to its employment peak until late 2006. According to economists at the New England Economic Partnership (NEEP), the 6-state region is not expected to reach the just over 7 million job plateau until 2006. Employment topped out at 7.1 million in the first quarter of 2001. Unemployment in New England will average 4.7 percent from 2003 to 2008, or about half a percentage point below the U.S. average.
