Number Of Jobs Held, Labor Market Activity, And Earnings Growth Among Younger Baby Boomers: Recent Results From A Longitudinal Survey.
The average person born in the later years of the baby boom held 10 jobs from age 18 to age 38. More than two-thirds of these jobs were held in the first half of the period, from ages 18 to 27. However, baby boomers continued to have a relatively large number of short-duration jobs, even as they approached middle age.

These findings are from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979, a survey of 9,964 young men and women born in the years 1957 to 1964, who were ages 14 to 22 when first interviewed in 1979 and ages 37 to 45 when interviewed most recently in 2002.

Help-Wanted
The Conference Board' Help-Wanted Advertising Index dipped one point in July. It now stands at 37, down from 38 the previous month. The index was 38 one year ago. In the past 3 months, help-wanted advertising declined in six of the nine U.S. regions. Declines occurred in the West North Central (-7.2%), South Atlantic (-6.1%), East North Central (-4.9%), East South Central (-4.1%), Middle Atlantic (-2.1%) and Pacific (-2.0%) regions. Increases occurred in the Mountain (6.1%), West South Central (1.9%) and New England (0.1%) regions.

Reveille
Job seekers at the top of the pay scale are wrestling with the quality of their resumes, according to a survey conducted by executive job search service TheLadders.com. Sixty-one percent of those surveyed reported that they like their resume but know it cold be better, 23 percent think their resumes are perfect, 11 percent think theirs needs help, and 5 percent aren't sure what separates a good resume from a bad one.

The terms of a partnership will enable Manpower Services Calgary to resell the CareerExchange SonicRecruit applicant tracking software to its clients.

NicheBoards.com tells us that in the first 6 months of 2004, its job postings and revenues have spiked more than 30 percent. The 12-member group, which draws a combined 3 million monthly visitors, is an alliance of independent niche job boards, each targeting specific professions and industries.
