Worker Displacement 2001–03. During the January 2001 through December 2003 period, 5.3 million workers were displaced from jobs they had held for at least 3 years. The number of displaced workers increased from 4.0 million in the January 1999 through December 2001 survey. Specifically, 57percent of long-tenured workers, who were displaced from full-time wage and salary jobs and who were reemployed in such jobs, had earnings that were lower than those on the lost job. About one-third experienced earnings losses of 20 percent or more.
Help-Wanted Index
The Conference Board Help-Wanted Advertising Index, a barometer of America's job market, dipped one point in June and now stands at 38, down from 39 the previous month. It was 38 one year ago. In the past 3 months, help-wanted advertising declined in five of the nine U.S. regions. Declines occurred in the Pacific (-8.9%), East North Central (-7.6%), East South Central (-7.5%), West North Central (-2.2%), and West South Central (-0.1%) regions. Increases occurred in the South Atlantic (5.5%), New England (4.1%), Mountain (4.0%), and Middle Atlantic (0.7%) regions.
New Combinations
Workstream, a global provider of hosted Enterprise Workforce Management software, completes its acquisition of Bravanta, a privately held provider of Enterprise Incentive and Recognition software programs for Global 2000 companies.
Reveille
Jobing.com, Phoenix's locally focused employment Web site, will begin airing a new weekly television show, JobingTV. The show, which will be an expansion of Jobing.com's local job board, will air in a weekly news magazine format in Phoenix. Profiled will be leading companies and organizations in the Phoenix area.
The Address Book
The Jacobson Group, dedicated to the insurance, healthcare, and financial services sectors opens a Jacobson Solutions office to deliver its temporary and project-based solutions, located at 7557 Rambler Road, Dallas, Texas.
