Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment. In June, 275 metropolitan areas recorded lower unemployment rates than
a year earlier, 38 areas had higher rates, and 18 areas had
rates that were unchanged. Thirteen metropolitan areas had jobless rates
below 3.0 percent, with five located in the Midwest, five in the South, and
three in the Northeast. Eleven areas posted unemployment rates of at least
10.0 percent; six of these were located in California, and three were along
the Mexican border in other States. The national unemployment rate was 5.8
percent, not seasonally adjusted, in June.

Alexus, a provider of web-based recruiting and hiring applications to human resources organizations, files for protection under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Act. The company recently released upgraded product Alexus 5.
Yahoo! HotJobs and Mark Burnett Productions join forces in an exclusive co-branded marketing campaign to help recruit for NBC's national hit TV show, "The Apprentice." A HotJobs microsite is available through which aspiring corporate moguls can apply to be contestants for future seasons of the show. In addition, job seekers also have the chance to win a $25,000 "signing bonus" through the microsite.
BrokerHunter.com, an online employment site for securities professionals, expands its content offering through a partnership with Boston Institute of Finance. BrokerHunter.com users can now access hundreds of online financial courses via the new BrokerHunter Learning Center.
The latest survey from executive job search service TheLadders.com finds that workers in the top brackets of the pay scale are upbeat about the job market, finds that 76.4 percent of respondents say now is a better time to be in the job market than this time last year, and though the overwhelming majority of executives are optimistic, 23.6 percent felt that last year was the better time to be looking for new employment. Respondents from Pennsylvania, California, and North Carolina have the most positive outlooks on the job market, as opposed to those in Michigan, Virginia, and Florida, who are not a favorable.
