Hudson Index
The
Hudson Employment Index declined to 104.8 in May, from 107.1 the previous month, reaching its lowest level this year. The downturn suggests the labor market may have taken a breather after gaining momentum. Similarly, the percentage of managers, who say their firms are hiring, dropped two points in May to 33 percent.
Greater Washington
The Greater Washington (D.C.) Initiative, an economic development marketing organization, released its annual Regional Report, revealing that the D.C. region bucked the national trend by creating nearly 20,000 new jobs in 2003. According to the report, the Greater Washington area has a
population of 5.8 million people, making it the fourth largest
metropolitan area in the country, with a gross regional product of $288 billion. The report also noted that the D.C. area has 15 companies in the Fortune 500.
