Consumer Price Index: April 2004. The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.3 percent in April, before seasonal adjustment. The April level of 188.0 was 2.3 percent higher than in April 2003. The Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) also increased 0.3 percent in April, prior to seasonal adjustment. The April level of 183.5 was 2.1 percent higher than in April 2003. The Chained Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (C-CPI-U) increased 0.3 percent in April on a not-seasonally-adjusted basis. The
April level of 109.7 was 1.9 percent higher than in April 2003.
Real Earnings: April 2004. Real average weekly earnings increased by 0.2 percent from March to April after seasonal adjustment. A 0.3-percent increase in average hourly earnings was partially offset by a 0.2-percent increase in CPI-W. Average weekly hours were unchanged.
New Combinations
Crisis Care Network, Inc. and Crisis Management International, Inc. merge the Critical Incident Response Division of CMI into the Crisis Care Network (CCN), effective July 1. Financial terms of the agreement will not be disclosed. As part of this merger, CCN will establish a clinical advisory board to define the next generation of standard of care for critical incident response.

CareerExchange Interactive Corp. signs a 1-year contract with a
major Canadian national airline, which will use SonicRecruit to
facilitate its hiring.
One-quarter of HR professionals responding to an April 2004 survey conducted by HR technology company ERC Dataplus and Human Resource Executive magazine
believed that their organization would benefit from President Bush's proposed
temporary worker program, which would allow illegal immigrants in the U.S. or
workers abroad to apply for the right to work legally in the U.S. for a 3-year
term.
