Room To Move
According to a just-released survey from CareerJournal.com and the Society for Human Resource Management, HR professionals and their employees again pass like two ships in the night. The survey finds that while 90 percent of human resource professionals say salaries are negotiable, only 78 percent of employees report negotiating salary. Although most employees say they are comfortable negotiating salary, bonuses, and/or benefits, they might have better success if companies/HR departments made it clear (and employees asked about )which aspects of the compensation package are the most negotiable.
Job Drain
Although
the job-drain problem runs nationwide, with some 2.3 million more jobs lost than gained since 2001, some States have been hit harder than others. Numbers show that Massachusetts tops the list, losing a higher percentage of jobs over the past 3 years (6 percent) than any other State. The Christian Science Monitor reports on the job losses and gains throughout the country.
Whistlin' While You Work
According to The City & Guilds Happiness Index, compiled to track the satisfaction of the U.K. workforce, a fifth of trade professionals (21 percent) are extremely happy with their jobmore than double the 9 percent of white collar workers. It seems that only 1 in 7 IT pros are happy with their chosen path.
