The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.5 percent in February, before seasonal adjustment. The February
level of 186.2 was 1.7 percent higher than in February 2003. The Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) increased 0.6 percent in February, prior to seasonal adjustment. The February level of 181.9 was 1.5 percent higher than in February 2003.
Real average weekly earnings decreased by 0.1 percent from January to
February after seasonal adjustment, according to preliminary data. A 0.2-
percent increase in average hourly earnings was offset by a 0.3-percent increase in CPI-W. Average weekly hours were unchanged.

New Combinations
The employee benefits firms of
Corporate Benefit Services and Johnson Benefits Group have merged. The resulting firm will be known as Corporate Benefit Services and will retain its office in Brentwood and the Johnson Benefits Group's office in Nashville.

The Human Capital Institute (HCI) appoints the Center for Talent Retention to its National Advisory Board. Also Unicru and Peopleclick join HCI as a founding sponsor.
Under terms of a new agreement, all member companies of DirectEmployers Association will have the option to use the Recruiter Management System, a web-based system that serves as a single point of contact for corporate staffing professionals to more effectively manage their relationship with executive recruiters from
RecruitAlliance.
