Employment Cost Index for December 2003: Total compensation costs for civilian workers rose 0.7 percent from September to December 2003, seasonally adjusted, moderating from the 1.0-percent gain from June to September. Benefit costs increased 1.2 percent and continued to strongly outpace the gain in wages and salaries for civilian workers, 0.5 percent.
Help-Wanted Advertising
The Conference Board Help-Wanted Advertising Index, a barometer of America's job market, dipped one point in December. The index now stands at 38. In the past 3 months, help-wanted advertising increased in seven of the nine U.S. regions. The largest increases occurred in the New England (13.8%), East North Central (9.6%), and West North Central (6.8%) regions.
Milestones
BostonWorks reports that the Big Help advertising section from January 11 saw a 10-percent increase in total number of recruitment ads placed by Greater Boston's employers over January 2003. It was the largest Big Help section since September 2001.
Transition Assistance Online, a job board for separating military personnel preparing for civilian careers, celebrates its 7th anniversary and reports that its rèsumè database has jumped to nearly 50,000.
CampusRN.com, a subsidiary of CampusCareerCenter.com, reports that more than 15,000 nursing/allied health job seekers became members and that more than 50 facilities have selected the site to search for qualified healthcare candidates since its May 2003 opening..
Recruitmax reports that during 2003 it signed contracts with 47 new enterprise accounts, maintained a 100-percent retention of its current enterprise client base, and received a $17.2 million Series A financing round by Questmark Partners and Tudor Ventures.
Hrsmart, a provider of web-based talent management solutions, reports that for the period ended December 31, 2003, an increase of 111 percent in revenue and a 211-percent increase in net income when compared to Fiscal Year 2002.
