Personal income increased $35.1 billion (0.4%) and disposable personal income (DPI) increased $31.5 billion (0.4%) in October. Personal consumption expenditures (PCE) decreased $1.1 billion (less than 0.1%). In
September, personal income increased $28.6 billion (0.3%), DPI decreased $80.9 billion (1.0%), and PCE decreased $24.8 billion (0.3%), based on revised estimates.
Help-Wanted
The Conference Board Help-Wanted Advertising Index was 37 in October, unchanged from the previous month. The index was 40 a year ago. In the past 3 months, help-wanted advertising declined in seven of the nine U.S. regions. Steepest declines occurred in the Mountain (-10.4%), Middle Atlantic (-9.3%) and South Atlantic (-7.0%) regions.
Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report
In the week ending November 22, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 351,000, a decrease of 11,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 362,000. The 4-week moving average was 358,750, a decrease of 10,000 from the previous week's revised average of 368,750.

Effective corporate communication appears to boost both profits and employee satisfaction, according to Connecting Organizational Communication to Financial Performance - 2003/2004 Communication ROI Study, from Watson Wyatt. The new study found that companies with the most effective communication experienced a 26-percent total return to shareholders from 1998 to 2002, compared to anegative15-percent return for companies that communicate least effectively.
