From the Bureau
Personal income growth accelerated in 39 States in the first quarter of 2003, according to preliminary estimates. The number was up from the fourth quarter of 2002, when 32 States and the District of Columbia had faster growth, and was substantially higher than in the third quarter of 2002, when only 10 States had faster growth.

Personal income for the nation, which is only available in current dollars, grew 0.9 percent in the first quarter of 2003, up from increases of 0.6 percent and 0.5 percent in the last two quarters of 2002.

Reveille
Online recruitment site HotJobs , is offering new tools that are designed to help job seekers and recruiters find each other more easily. A Proposed Jobs function automatically suggests appropriate employment opportunities for job seekers and a Suggested Search feature shows users how to broaden their job search queries for additional job opportunities if their initial search does not produce results. In addition, the improved site includes an enhanced Search Results and a streamlined version of Quick Search, and enhanced Search Agents.

Federal Update
The U.S. Department of Labor Department has issued A Chartbook of International Labor Comparisons: United States, Europe, and Asia. The chartbook provides comparative information that can be used to assess U. S. economic and labor performance relative to other countries and to evaluate the competitive position of the United States in international trade. The charts provide a comparative labor market perspective which can be helpful in the development of public policy as well as corporate strategies.

Where You Live vs Where You Work
The highest court in New York is blazing the trail in the world of the virtual workplace. On July 3, 2002, the New York Court of Appeals issued a ruling in what they labeled as the first case in the country to decide telecommuting-employee eligibility for unemployment benefits. The court held that telecommuting employees should apply for unemployment benefits in the State in which they live, not where the employer is located. A BLR report.
