The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) decreased
0.2 percent in May, before seasonal adjustment. The May level
of 183.5 was 2.1 percent higher than in May 2002. The Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers
(CPI-W) decreased 0.2 percent in May, prior to seasonal adjustment. The
May level of 179.4 was 2.0 percent higher than in May 2002.
Real average weekly earnings increased by 0.5 percent from April to May
after seasonal adjustment, according to preliminary data. This was due to a
0.3-percent increase in average hourly earnings and a 0.1-percent decrease in
CPI-W. Average weekly hours were unchanged.

Dropping Notes
White Amber, a provider of human resources services, reports it raised $4 million in new venture funding from existing investors Infinity Capital, RRE Ventures, Venrock Associates, and Wachovia Strategic Ventures. The Lake Success, New York-based company has raised in excess of $40 million since its founding in 2000.
Form & Function
The seventh institutional investors survey from global recruiting firm
Russell Reynolds Associates, shows that portfolio managers and analysts worldwide are looking for CEOs and board members to operate under a new set of principles that emphasize brainpower over sound bytes. The survey also found that investors are greatly concerned about the credibility of information they receive, whether it comes directly from CEOs themselves or from printed corporate materials.
