The
Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) decreased
0.2 percent in April, before seasonal adjustment. The April level of 183.8 was 2.2 percent higher than in April 2002.
The Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers
(CPI-W) decreased 0.3 percent in April, prior to seasonal adjustment. The
April level of 179.8 was 2.3 percent higher than in April 2002.
Real average weekly earnings decreased by 0.3 percent from March to April
after seasonal adjustment. A 0.1-percent increase in average hourly earnings and a 0.5-percent decrease in CPI-W were more than offset by a 0.9-percent decline in average weekly hours.
