Real gross domestic product (GDP), the output of goods and services produced by labor and property located in the United States, increased at an annual rate of 1.6 percent in the first quarter of 2003, according to advance estimates. In the fourth quarter, real GDP increased 1.4 percent.
Help-Wanted Index
The Conference Board Help-Wanted Advertising Index dipped two points in March. It now stands at 38, down from 40 in February. It was 45 one year ago. In the past 3 months, help-wanted advertising declined in five of the nine U.S. regions. Declines occurred in the East North Central (-2.1%), West North Central (-12.8%), Pacific (-10.2%), West South Central (-5.1%), and East South Central (-21.2) regions. Increases occurred in the Mountain (33.1%), New England (16.4%), South Atlantic (1.9%), and Middle Atlantic (2.4%) regions.
New Combinations
TALX Corporation, a business process outsourcer of payroll-related and human resources services, sold its benefits enrollment business, including all active customer contracts, to Workscape, an HR self-service solutions firm.
Reveille
LaToiledesRecruteurs.com reports that after 30 years, Statistics Canada will no longer publish its Help-wanted Index after the May 6 update. The index is seen as becoming less with the growing use of online job postings.
Rocket Software, a provider of enterprise class software products and technology components, will integrate its ActiveHelp technology into the services and products offered by TMP/Hudson Global Resources.
