Getting Out
John Sumser muses on the similarities between vendor relationships and craters in today's ERN.
From the Bureau
Most regional and State unemployment rateseither were little changed or declined from April to May, but remained markedly higher than a year earlier. All four regions reported little or no change from April, and 39 States and the District of Columbia recorded shifts of 0.3 percentage point or less. The national jobless rate also was little changed at 5.8 percent in May. Nonfarm employment increased in 31 States and the District of Columbia.
New Combinations
E-learning companies SmartForce (Nasdaq:SMTF) and SkillSoft (Nasdaq:SKIL) have signed a definitive agreement to merge in a stock-for-stock transaction.
Reveille
ClassConnectionWorks.com, a partnership between BostonWorks and Eagle-Tribune Publishing, Inc. , will serve as the exclusive career website for the Eagle-Tribune's six daily and weekly newspapers in Massachusetts' Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire, and includes access to the BostonWorks database of regional job listings. ClassConnection advertisers will have the option to have their print help wanted ads posted to the BostonWorks.com jobs database.
Justengineers.net adds two new services: CV Watchdog allows you to receive latest candidate CVs direct to your desktop every morning, and Look Who's Looking allows you to browse through a hot list of newly registered.
A Workforce Divided
The Washington Post reports on the two classes of employees being created in the workplace.
Randstad's 2002 Employee Review finds that people are temporarily fatalistic about job hunting, and far more of them are emphasizing family instead of work. The good news is that morale is improving, and workers generally like performance appraisals and even their bosses, although some think it is very foolish to remain loyal to one company.

your successes, please send an

- The Company w/ The Best Practices Example
- Your Relationship to That Company
- The Correct Contact In That Company (if you
are an agency or vendor)
- A Brief Description Of The Area of Best
Practice
- A Description Of The Measurements Used To
Quantify The Improvement
We expect to collect somewhere between 50 and
100 examples. We'll follow up with a contact at the company. Then, we'll winnow
the list down to 20 Key case studies while summarizing the remainder of the
examples.
