The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers was unchanged in May, before seasonal adjustment. The May level of 179.8 was 1.2 percent higher than its level in May 2001.

The Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) was unchanged in May, prior to seasonal adjustment. The May level of 175.8 was 0.8 percent higher than the index in May 2001.

Real average weekly earnings increased by 0.3 percent from April to May after seasonal adjustment, according to preliminary data. This was due to a 0.2-percent increase in average hourly earnings and a 0.1-percent decrease in CPI-W. Average weekly hours were unchanged.
