Personal income increased $49.9 billion (0.6 percent) and disposable personal income (DPI) increased $49.5 billion (0.7 percent) in February. Personal consumption expenditures (PCE) increased $44.6 billion (0.6 percent). In January, personal income increased $44.7 billion (0.5 percent), DPI increased $137.7 billion (1.8 percent), and PCE increased $32.5 billion (0.5 percent) based on revised estimates.

Real gross domestic product (the output of goods and services produced by labor and property located in the United States) increased at an annual rate of 1.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2001, according to revised estimates. In the third quarter, real GDP decreased 1.3 percent.

Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report
In the week ending March 23, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 394,000, an increase of 18,000 from the previous week's revised figure. The 4-week moving average was 383,500, an increase of 3,250 from the previous week's revised average.
