In January, most regional and State unemployment rates either declined or were little changed over the month, but were higher than a year earlier. The national jobless rate decreased to 5.6 percent in January. Nonfarm employment increased in 30 States.
The revised fourth-quarter 2001 seasonally-adjusted annual rates of productivity change (as measured by output per hour of all persons) and revised annual changes for the full Year 2001 are as follows:
Fourth quarter:
Business sector 5.1
Nonfarm business sector 5.2
Annual averages:
Both sectors 1.9
The unemployment rate was essentially unchanged at 5.5 percent in February. Nonfarm payroll employment was up by 66,000 in February, following several months of large job losses. February gains in several industries, however, can be attributed to special factors. Manufacturing employment continued to decline, although at a slower pace.
Monster Neighborhoods
It is reported in
Poynter.org that Monster.com is moving into the local market arena. JobMatch will debut in Cincinnati, and if successful, the company plans to make it a household name. Monster has registered hundreds of locality-based URLs, such as houmajobmatch.com and jobmatchhouma.com (for Houma, Louisiana).
