The California legislature has amended the California Civil Code §1786, Consumer Reporting Agencies Act, such that, as of January 1, 2002, employers, who hire firms to run background checks about applicants or employees, are required to provide the subjects of the investigations with both a written notice that a background check will be conducted and, upon conclusion of the background check, with a written copy of the report.
