Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report
In the week ending January 19, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 376,000, a decrease of 15,000 from the previous week's revised figure. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.7 percent for the week ending January 12, unchanged from the prior week. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending January 12 was 3,458,000, a decrease of 54,000 from the preceding week's revised level.
It's Over When?
According to a report released by the Economic Policy Institute, the economic upturn predicted for the spring won't be strong enough to stop unemployment from continuing to rise throughout the year, reaching 6.5 percent by the last quarter of 2002 and falling only slightly during 2003.
