From the Bureau
The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) declined 0.4 percent in December, before seasonal adjustment, to a level of 176.7. For the 12-month period ended in December, the CPI-U increased 1.6 percent.
The Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) decreased 0.5 percent in December, prior to seasonal adjustment. The December level of 172.9 was 1.3 percent higher than the index in December 2000.
Real average weekly earnings increased by 1.1 percent from November to December after seasonal adjustment, according to preliminary data. This was due to a 0.5-percent increase in average hourly earnings, a 0.3-percent increase in average weekly hours, and a 0.2-percent decrease in the CPI-W.
Form & Function
A recent survey finds that organizations handle HR issues differently depending on their size and stage of development. Conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management and Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, the survey finds that human capital was most important to companies of all stages of development. Yet, employee feedback appears to be more valued at companies in the start-up stage than in more mature organizations. About half of the organizations agree that HR is a partially integrated strategic partner, but only a quarter of them in total say that HR is a fully integrated partner.
