Privacy Bugaboo
Sumser looks at privacy on the web. Read more in today's Electronic Recruiting News.

From the Bureau
Employment fell and the unemployment rate rose sharply to 4.9 percent in August. Nonfarm payroll employment declined by 113,000, due primarily to another large drop in manufacturing and a decline in transportation and public utilities. Most other major industries showed little or no change in employment over the month.

A Monster Issue
The Privacy Foundation released an investigative report on Monster.com disclosing that company officials have discussed selling resume data to marketers, that resumes submitted to corporate Websites have been routinely sent to Monster.com without disclosure to job seekers, and that Monster supplies AOL Time Warner, a marketing partner, with information from job-search activities. The report also states that MonsterTrak, the company's job site for college students, collects age and gender information without a privacy policy that states how it can be used. Monster denies any wrongdoing.

Reveille
BrassRing Systems creates a Professional Services Group designed to provide consulting to companies to leverage talent relationships.

Guiding Principles
A thoughtful piece on improving the integrity and reputation of the recruiting industry.

Agility
Cornell University Center for Advanced Human Resources Studies reports on the agile company and how that is related to HR. (Go to July/August issue.)

Caught in the Middle
BusinessWeekOnline reports on major study that explores the predicament of 40-somethings, who must care for kids and elderly parents. Employers may want to take heed.
