In July, 208 metropolitan areas recorded unemployment rates below the U.S. average (4.7 percent, not seasonally adjusted), while 117 areas had higher rates. Five metropolitan areas had unemployment rates below 2.0 percent. Of the seven areas with jobless rates above 10.0 percent, four were located in California and three were along the Mexican border in other States.
JobOptions/BTM Job-Listing Index
The index evaporated last week and although stronger than the prior week's reading, remained close to last week's low level. For the week ending August 27, the index rose by 3.1 percent. For August, it declined by 11.4 percent from the prior month's level and was off nearly 17 percent from the same month of the prior year. On a 4-week moving average basis, the index decreased by 24.2 percent from the prior. (Go to Latest Weekly Release.)

Global private equity investment firm Warburg Pincus acquires a majority interest in temporary healthcare staffing solutions firm Medical Staffing Network. Warburg Pincus and existing shareholders will contribute approximately $185 million of equity, giving the company an enterprise value of almost $300 million.
