Foundations 6
"How does eRecruiting benefit the overall enterprise?" is the question discussed in Part 6 of Sumsers in depth look at e-Recruiting. Read more in the Electronic Recruiting News.

From the Bureau
The Employment Index (not seasonally adjusted) for June 2001 was 153.8, an increase of 3.9 percent from June 2000. Seasonally adjusted, the increase in compensation costs for civilian workers was 0.9 percent, and wages and salaries increased 1.0 percent during the March-June 2001 period. Benefit costs rose 1.0 percent during the June 2001 quarter, following a 1.3 percent increase in the March 2001 quarter.

Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 0.7 percent in the second quarter of 2001, according to advance. In the first quarter, real GDP increased 1.3 percent.

Help-Wanted Advertising Index
The Conference Board index dipped 2 points in June, and now stands at 58, down from a reading of 60 in May. In the past 3 months, help-wanted advertising declined in all nine U.S. regions. Steepest declines occurred in the East South Central (-15.7 percent), Middle Atlantic (-15.4 percent), Mountain (-15.3 percent), and West North Central (-14.8 percent) regions.

Flat Projections
According to Hunt-Scanlon Advisors, worldwide revenues for the retained executive search industry are projected to grow at a rate of only 6 to 8 percent over the next 18 months. Although posting an average annual growth rate of 22 percent over the past 5 years, the recruiting industry registered negative year-over-year growth for the first half of 2001.
