The JobOptions/BTM Job-Listing Index
JLI more than reversed last week's gain and stands at 393.2 for the week ending July 16. The current reading is the lowest since June 8, 1998. On a 4-week moving average basis, the JLI slipped by 2.8 percent in the latest week and has declined in each of the last 4 weeks. (Go to Latest Weekly Release.)
M & A
Statistics compiled by De Bellas & Co., a specialty investment banking firm, indicate that 22 staffing businesses were sold or merged in the second quarter of 2001, matching the transaction activity of the first quarter. Transactions involving specialty providers, including legal, accounting/finance, medical firms, and PEOs, continued to draw the most interest, with 10 such specialty firms acquired. There were four sales of traditional staffing companies, those specializing in clerical or light industrial staffing, and three sales of IT staffing companies.
Into Whose Pocket?
IDC forecasts that the worldwide market will grow from $1.6 billion in 2000 to $13.4 billion by 2005. This means an additional $11.8 billion will be up for grabs in this market in the coming years.

KnowledgePlanet, a human capital management enterprise software company, has acquired learning content management system technology from Technology Solutions Company in consideration for an equity stake in KnowledgePlanet.
