Consolidation
The number of companies controlling 50 percent of user minutes online in the United States shrank from 11 to 4 over the past 2 years, a drop of 64 percent, according a new report from Jupiter Media Metrix. The big four are America Online, Yahoo!, Microsoft, and Napster. Even more significantly, the number of companies controlling 60 percent of all U.S. surfing time plummeted from 110 to 14, according to the report. An interesting question is will this consolidation phenomenon affect recruiting sites?
