Federal Update
Reuters reports that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the $300,000 cap on compensatory damages in cases of intentional discrimination in the workplace does not include money awarded for lost compensation after a judgment has been entered. Reversing a lower court decision, the high court ruled unanimously that Congress, in a 1991 Federal civil rights law, did not limit the availability of such front pay awards covering the time period between judgment and reinstatement or steps taken in place of reinstatement.
