Retention
The debate on the value of retention versus inventory management rages on in the Electronic Recruiting News.
JobOptions/BTM Job-Listing Index
The index fell by 2.7 percent over the latest week ending May 7. Moreover, on a 4-week moving average basis, it declined by 15.3 percent and has declined in 10 out of the past 11 weeks. In April, the index plunged by 30.7 percent from the prior month with a similarly awful 35.9-percent drop from April 2000. (Go to Latest Weekly Release.)

The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing opens its Mediation Program, designed to bring together employers and employees on a voluntary basis to resolve formal complaints of workplace discrimination filed with the department. The program is free of charge to all parties.
CAREERS Live!, the in-flight recruitment show, will feature UBS/PaineWebber, Arrow Electronics, and Monster.com in its May showings on United Airlines.
Goodshark Enterprises enhances its CareerOffice 2001, a web-based solution for campus recruitment, to include wireless, eCommerce, and career call center services.
SmartForce will provide an advanced, e-Learning infrastructure for the contract employees with Directfit.
The April issue of The Journal of Occupational Health Psychology features two interesting research studies:
Workers' Perceptions of How Jobs Affect Health: A Social Ecological Perspective and The Effects of Job Insecurity on Employee Safety Outcomes: Cross-Sectional and Longitudinal Explorations. Of particular interest are the cited references-they offer a wealth of information and resources.
