According to De Bellas & Co., 21 staffing businesses were sold or merged in the first quarter of 2001, continuing the trend of slower reported activity in the staffing industry. Transactions involving specialty staffing firms held steady in the first quarter, with 14 specialty firms acquired. However, transactions involving information technology (IT) staffing firms were again down in the first quarter, with only two IT staffing firms acquired.
