Free Man In Paris
A recent survey suggests many Americans are involuntary workaholics. More than 30 percent of workers report working during lunch and nearly 20 percent said they are too overworked to use their annual vacation time. Seventeen percent of the workers surveyed reported a loss of sleep because of work and 21 percent said they have missed family events because of their job.

While U.S. workers are missing lunch, Britons, who devote long hours to the workplace, have no appetite for sex or family once they go home, according to a survey conducted in the United Kingdom. The report also found that in the past 12 months more than a third say they have made mistakes, ranging from fatigue-related mismanagement of people and projects to property damage and personal injury.

Not wanting to miss either, France has come up with a novel way to reduce unemployment: Shorten the workweek. A year-old law cuts the average workweek from 39 hours to 35 hours for virtually all workers in France. The labor ministry says 150,000 new jobs have been created so far, out of a workforce of 24 million.
