Smart Ideas
Sumser reviews valuable resources in the Electronic Recruiting News today.

Show Me More Than the Money
According to a study by Accenture, companies continue to struggle with retention because they are relying on salary increases and bonuses to prevent turnover. Leading companies have discovered that providing employees with a comprehensive range of career and skills-development opportunities is the key to attracting and retaining the kind of flexible, technology-savvy workforce needed to succeed in the digital economy.

Federal Update
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that, under the Federal Arbitration Act, an employer can enforce a signed agreement that requires an employee to take all employment-related disputes to arbitration rather than to court.

The President signed a repeal of a workplace ergonomics rule, striking down a regulation opposed by businesses as too costly, but championed by Democrats as a critical safety measure. The regulation aimed to reduce repetitive strain injuries suffered by an estimated 1 million American workers.

Check Out the Competition
Six regional teacher recruitment centers have opened as part of California's plan to reduce the teacher shortage. Located in Sacramento, Tulare, San Bernadino, Los Angeles, and San Diego, each center is designed as a one-stop information, recruitment, and job placement-clearing house.

New Combinations
Interpublic Group of Companies, whose agencies work for clients like Coca-Cola, General Motors and Nestlé, will acquire True North Communications, whose agencies work for clients, such as AT&T, Compaq Computer, and Pepsi. The stock deal, subject to the usual conditions, is valued at almost $2.1 billion, and is reported to create the largest marketing communications and services groups worldwide.

Reveille
DataFrenzy adds ComputerJobs.com, FlipDog, and Net-Temps to its network of more than 150 job boards.

CollegeClub.com and SiliconValley.com have joined the CareerBuilder network.
