The Use Of "Communities" Expands
Taking a look at industry trends in today's Electronic Recruiting News. This is an excerpt from the 24 Electronic Recruiting Trends 2001 (requires Acrobat).

From the Bureau
Regional and Sate unemployment rates generally were stable in January. Three of the four regions posted little change over the month, and 43 Sates and the District of Columbia recorded shifts of 0.3 percentage point or less. The national jobless rate rose from 4.0 percent in December to 4.2 percent in January. Nonfarm employment increased in 28 Sates and the District of Columbia in January.

Diverse Perceptions
Cornell University Center for Advanced Human Resources reports on a research study that found that while most businesses agree that diversity creates significant opportunities, differences in employee background and experience can also lead to conflict and discord. Group-level feelings of injustice and conflicting resolution styles are particularly divisive and hard to resolve. Employees typically mentioned organizational injustices, such as pay and promotions, organizational decision-making processes, and interpersonal interactions with managers and other employees. Some of the questions that arise are: How much is diversity a guiding principle in corporate thinking and behavior? How much is it lip service? How diverse is the upper eschelon? What about other supervisory/management positions? How flexible is the organization to incorporate different/new ideas? (Go to Jan/Feb Newsletter.)

Dot-Com Diaspora
The March 1 edition of Silicon Alley Daily looks at the effects of dot-com layoffs and the residential housing market. How is your HR department equipped to assist a new hire with the housing issue?

Reveille
IndustryClick has selected CareerJournal.com to power its new career centers and job databases. The job databases will use the technologies and services of CareerCast.

The National Retail Federation will give its members direct access to Headhunter.net's career services through a co-branded site. Headerhunter.net will also sponsor offline career fairs produced by Women For Hire, providing career services for the junior and mid-level professional women's marketplace.
