RIP And another one bites the dust... In the Electronic Recruiting News, Sumser looks at the strain on both sides of the equation when a supplier goes under.
The Numbers
Traffic to the 20 leading career-related websites increased 47.7 percent among U.S. users between December 2000 and January 2001, according to Alexa Research. Monster.com led the way, followed by HotJobs.com, Headhunter.net, craigslist, and Dice.com. Niche site AECJobBank.com made the largest month-to-month gain, with January traffic nearly tripling from December. BrassRing.com increased 108 percent and JobTrak.com, 105 percent.
Help-Wanted Index
The Conference Board Help-Wanted Advertising Index closed at 76 in January, down three points from December. It was 89 one year ago. In the past 3 months, help-wanted advertising declined in four regions: Mountain (-17.0%), West South Central (-11.3%), East South Central (-6.3%), and Pacific (-5.9%); rose in three regions : East North Central (5.3%), South Atlantic (1.6%) and West North Central (0.3%) ; and remained unchanged in two regions: The New England and Middle Atlantic.

Couldn't Pass It Up
In a recent survey that asked American workers to compare their working life to one of Grammy Award nominations, nearly 21 percent compare their working situation to I Try (Macy Gray), 6 percent to Save Me (Aimee Mann), 17 percent to Who Let the Dogs Out (Baja Men), 11 percent chose No Strings Attached ('Nsync) but, only 7 percent could compare their working situation to either Into the Void (Nine Inch Nails) or Oops! I Did It Again (Britney Spears).
