Gateway II
Recruiting Gateway sites can work - provided they focus on Customer Satisfaction instead of pushing their own material. John Sumser explains in today's Electronic Recruiting News today.

From the Bureau
Real average earnings declined by 0.4 percent from November to December after seasonal adjustment, according to preliminary data. A 0.6-percent decrease in average weekly hours and a 0.2-percent increase in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) were partially offset by a 0.4-percent increase in average hourly earnings. Average weekly earnings rose by 3.0 percent, seasonally adjusted, from December 1999 to December 2000.

Regional and State Unemployment Rates
Regional and State unemployment rates were stable in December. All four regions registered little or no change over the month, and 43 States recorded shifts of 0.3 percentage point or less. The national jobless rate was unchanged at 4.0 percent. Nonfarm employment increased in 32 States and the District of Columbia in December.

Check Out the Competition
The Association of Executive Search Consultants offers BlueSteps.com, a new matching service for top-level executives. All search firms are members of the association.

Jobvideos.net will shoot corporate videos as a way for job seekers to take a guided tour of that company before traveling for an interview or responding to an ad.

layoffJobs.com, a new job board with a very curious name, created exclusively for and free to job seekers who have been laid off.

Not Quite There, But A Lot Closer
Women are likely to earn as much as men during the first 5 years of employment in technology professions, a new techies.com study reveals. Overall, female techies earned an average 92 cents for every dollar their male counterparts made, according to the study. Other findings include that women averaged $5,071 less in yearly pay than men and that job demand isn't always a guarantee of salary parity. Surprisingly, in the Northwest female techies earn only 86 percent of what their male counterparts earn. In South Central States, such as Texas, women make 89 percent of men's salary.
