2001 Electronic Recruiting Index prepping to Ship
Hope that you have ordered your copy of John Sumser's In-depth Industry Analysis. Check out the 24 Trends piece for a small taste of the material.
Prevalence Does Not Equal Effectiveness
The American Electronic Association 2000 Information Technology Attraction & Retention Survey of high-tech companies shows that the most effective factors influencing IT employee retention, unchanged in the past 2 years, are challenging work, a favorable work environment, and support for career and family values.
The survey also found some differences between the most prevalent recruitment and retention tools and those cited as being most effective. For example, rewarding workers with additional vacation time was ranked fourth in retention effectiveness, but it didn't even make the list of the most prevalent practices used by the participating companies.
Towers Perrin, in its just-released marketplace research, found that more companies are offering options to their newest employees. Special option grants were awarded to newly hired senior managers in nearly 75 percent of the participating U.S. companies with nonfinancial company median revenues of $3 billion and financial company median assets of $24 billion. Almost two-fifths of the companies making up-front grants do so as a part of routine granting policy, with the remainder making awards on a case-by-case basis.
SiliconValley.com reports on two academic studies published within the past 9 months that suggest that companies do benefit from giving employees stock options, although their conclusions are slightly different.
