Regional Updates
After a significant slowdown in job growth in 1999 due to low oil prices, Houston is back on a strong growth path with a 3-percent employment growth rate through the first three-quarters of 2000, according to a senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
The California Industrial Welfare Commission voted to increase the minimum wage by 50 cents for each of the next 2 years. Beginning January 1, 2001, the minimum wage jumps to $6.25 per hour, then on January 1, 2002, it increases to $6.75 per hour.

The human resources communication division, Diversified Agencies Group, of Havas Advertising has merged with EMDS, a recruitment firm specializing in early career professionals. Terms were not disclosed.
TMP Worldwide opens its Executive Resourcing and Search operations in Brazil through the acquisition of Simon Franco Recursos Humanos S/A, a Sao Paulo-based search and selection firm, and related entities.
Viscardi Ventures GmbH has submitted its formal intention to make a cash offer for all of the issued and to be issued share capital of topjobs.net plc.
ECI of Tokyo is joining Boyden Global Executive Search.
ProAct Technologies, an HR portal provider, will acquire self-service software provider Interlynx Technology for $60 million.
experiencenet.com partners with Webjob, a Rome, Italy-based IT employment and e-learning services firm, to significantly expand experiencenet.com's presence in Italy.
Reveille
Personic closes a $10 million round of financing from private sources. The new money will be used to pay for continued research and development efforts as well as for general operating purposes.
HiringNetwork.com has raised $2.5 million from venture capital firm Cardinal Growth in Chicago.
HotJobs.com opens a sales office in Washington, D.C.
Christian & Timbers is expanding its operations in London, England.
