The Institute for Women's Policy Research released its biennial report The Status of Women in the States 2000. Each State is given a national ranking and a letter grade on five composite indices: political participation, employment and earnings, economic autonomy, reproductive rights, and health and well-being. Best Overall States include Connecticut,Vermont, and New Hampshire. Worst Overall States include Mississippi and Alabama, and Pennsylvania.
