JobAA
A new offering out of Thailand gives an example of the 'unlikely success' in today's Electronic Recruiting News.

State Personal Income: Second Quarter
According to estimates released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, for the Nation, personal income grew 1.7 percent. Prices paid by consumers increased 0.5 percent. In the second quarter, all 50 States had growth rates in personal income that equaled or were above the 0.5-percent increase in prices. Nevada, Delaware, Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Utah had the fastest growth in personal income; the District of Columbia saw a 0.3-percent growth.

Facts for Thoughts
Of the 3.7 million women with infants under the age of 1 in 1998, 59 percent were in the labor force, a record high and almost double the 31-percent participation rate of 1976, according to a report released today by the Bureau of the Census. In 1998, families with children in which both spouses worked became the majority (51 percent) of all married-couple families, compared with 33 percent in 1976.

The Wharton School Center for Human Resources indicates (registration required) ... only about 1 percent of childcare costs are contributed by employers ... Some estimates place childcare expenses up to 25 percent of a family's budget ... After 5 years of employee lobbying, a Silicon Valley company provided an onsite childcare facility. The return on investment included $11 million in turnover savings a year, employees commuting 1.3 million miles less on northern California freeways, and employees getting to work half an hour earlier, because their commute is shorter and with a child in the car they get to use the carpool lane.

JobOptions/BTM Job-Listing Index
The index fell by 5.8 percent over the latest week ending October 23, through it maintained a strong year-over-year momentum. (Go to Latest Weekly Release.)
