Foundations Of an SBB (Part 3)
The discussion continues bringing the Single Belly Button 'package' into clearer focus in today's Electronic Recruiting News.
Can You Afford It?
techies.com releases its Affordability Index, an effort to measure the value of technology salaries in real dollars. Considered to be the five most affordable markets are: Austin, Dallas, Houston, the Twin Cities, and Atlanta. The five least affordable markets are: New York City, the Bay Area, San Diego, Boston, and Los Angeles.
A survey, performed for Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network Network by management consulting firm A.T. Kearney, finds that 30 percent of the Internet executives polled would consider relocating. The survey suggests that for Silicon Valley to its position as the hub of the Web economy, the local governments must become more proactive and innovative in efforts to attract, retain and nurture Internet businesses - that is, work to build affordable housing, alleviate traffic congestion, and increase job training.
Thinking Systems
According to Gartner Group, enterprises that do not recognize and minimize employee dissatisfaction will have to fend off legal actions and public relations disasters caused by poor service, poor quality, and poor business practices. There is a correlation between employee mistreatment and business disruption, and Gartner outlines four people-management behaviors that drive employee dissatisfaction.
Stunning Statistics
An International Labour Organization report examines mental health in the workplace in Finland, Germany, Poland, United Kingdom and United States. The report finds that 1 in 10 office workers suffers from depression, anxiety, stress, or burnout. Information glut resulting from technological advances, the pace of globalization, dysfunctional office politics, overwork, and job insecurity are the main contributors to workplace stress.
Why Should Anyone Be Led by You?
Two authors discuss their ideas on what makes an inspirational leader, and dispel long-standing myths about leadership.
