Job Options/BTM Job-Listing Index
The index edged lower over the week ending October 9, but maintained strong year-over-year momentum. The index declined by 4.1 percent from the prior week and rose by nearly 47 percent from the same week last year.
Job Search Activity
A new WetFeet.com survey reports that experienced candidates on average only interviewed with three companies during their last job search and received offers from two of the three companies. Compensation topped the charts as the leading motivator for job switchers, with 87 percent of candidates influenced by competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits and 84 percent by employee ownership/stock options.
Hiring Trends
The JobTrak.com September Index shows a 3.1-percent increase in total job openings posted for the month with an average starting salary of $36,429. This is down from a year-to-year high of 50.4 percent in March.
It Goes Beyond Numbers
CareerJournal.com and Society for Human Resource Management found that although 61 percent of HR professionals and 53 percent of job seekers agreed that diversity initiatives have made organizations more successful, just 42 percent of job seekers felt the diversity program of their current employer was effective compared to 74 percent of HR professionals.
